PROGRAM INFORMATION

United Way of Northeast Arkansas funds programs at organizations with experience in education, financial stability and health working to reduce the cycle of poverty. Many of these programs assist clients who are "ALICE", the acronym for Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed.

ALICE represents the growing number of households that do not earn enough to afford basic necessities. The ALICE Report brings emphasis to households with income above the Federal Poverty Level but below the basic cost of living. A household consists of all people occupying a housing unit. The report provides research-based information of who is struggling within our communities.

The survival budget for Arkansas for a single adult is $18,240 and $46,812 for a household of 4, per this report. Households qualifying as ALICE or living in poverty within our coverage area range from a low of 33% for Craighead to a high of 52% for Jackson.
